Ursula: A Woman Scorned

Description

Photomanip and a little story....

I didn't mean to really write such a long backstory- but yeah. It just happened. lol It's kinda one of those "two sides to every story" villian fan-fictions. I do love The Little Mermaid... and Ursula is a favorite villianess of mine.

Ursula: a woman scorned.

Ursula the Sea-witch was said to once be a member of the court of King Triton, the king of Atlantica. This much is true. The story goes that she was banished for her obsession with Dark Magic by Triton, and fled to her lair outside of the great city with her eel companions; Flotsam and Jetsam. While she was banished... that story is only partially correct. What no one seems to mention is the forbidden love that she and Triton shared.

The young king was taken aback by her beauty and grace, the first time she came to his court. You see, Ursula was once a beautiful and kind Cecaelia (half octopod, half human.) Her skin a lovely lilac hue, Her long hair was a shimmering silver that seemed to catch every ray of light that penetrated the dark sea. Ursula had put on a show to please the bored king, Who was so tired of the over-organized and planned life he now led. Arranged meetings, arranged parties, and ah, yes. His arranged marriage. Lady Athena, A red-headed Mer-girl was to wed to him on the day of her 18th birthday, an arrangement he grudgingly accepted when he first donned the golden crown. King Triton immediately had Ursula added to his royal court, knowing she would be the much needed light to his dull life. In a short period of time, the pair had fallen deeply in love- although it was kept a much guarded secret from the rest of the Mer-folk. For as long as anyone had known it was unheard of for a Merman and a Cecaelia to be together, and Atlantica was steadfast in its old ways. As a new king, he knew he could not risk losing the support of his people, nor could he leave the only woman he had ever loved.

He spent many long nights with his lover, and many days he spent in agony over what was to become of them. They were together for some time- Triton would spend days with her in the master chamber, having her sneak in under the guise of a servant. If she had to do that forever, she didn't care. Just to be in his presence, to hear his voice, to hold his head on her chest as he fell asleep... it was all she ever wanted- although The king would send her many trinkets and gifts when he couldn't be by her side, even giving the girl her two cherished baby eels.

The night before his wedding, the two sat in his dimly lit chamber. Ursula sat still on the edge of his bed, a silent tear disappearing into the salty sea. She waited for him to speak, hoping her king would make the choice to leave with her. As long as she was with him, it didn't matter where they went. It could be the deepest abyss for all she cared. Triton tried to comfort her, making promises that it wouldn't be the last time they were together and that he would love only her. He spoke to her of his duty to his People, but his words became harder to hear the harder she wept.

The lonely Cecaelia was the only creature within miles who was not at the royal wedding. She sulked in a dark alley outside of the palace, holding onto Flotsam and Jetsam while cringing at the sound of the laughter and music. Especially when the new Queen Athena had sang for the king as a wedding gift.

For weeks after, she avoided the throne at all costs during the day, her heart breaking to see the new queen at his side. At night he would meet Ursula outside the city, meeting her in that awful whale carcass so that no one would suspect his secret. It was all she had to look forward to.

Then one day, He wasn't there.

More days painfully went by, yet she still sat alone every night waiting for her king to come back to her. One morning upon returning to her sleeping quarters at the palace, she was met by the royal guards. Her tentacles were quickly tied, and she was dragged by her hair out of her room, straight to the base of the throne. The confused girl looked up, straight into the cold eyes of her new queen. Before she knew what happened, she was stripped of her golden court badge and ranking, and convicted of treachery against the king- seducing him with black magic!
Triton looked at her only once, shaking his head sadly as his wife gave the orders of her banishment. She had found out about their secret. Athena had made the Sea king somehow believe that their love was only brought on by her magic, and nothing more. Ursula wept as they yanked her hair upwards, slicing it off in one quick motion; a sign of her disgrace on the kingdom. She has screamed for him to save her, to believe her, that their love was true... yet he only looked away as she was shacked and led out the palace gates. Ursula was taken down the main road, the other Mer-folk laughing and taunting her, the word "witch" painfully echoed throughout the streets.
The guards threw her down outside of the city walls, her garments torn and body bruised. Flotsam and Jetsam hurriedly swam up to her frail body. The girl leaned on them for support as they made their way to a place befitting of her broken heart - the desolate whale carcass that she would now call home.
